Summer Programs 2013

We offer camps for rising first graders through graduating seniors.  No matter what camp you attend, your time will be filled each day with activities such as swimming, hiking, group games, crafts, Bible studies and much more! Read more below to find out which camp is right for you!

Elementary Camps

Rising Sun Camp
(Rising Grades 2-3)

Fee:  $260

Rising Sun Camps are for our youngest campers. Housing is in the main camp lodges.  This level of camp is highly structured (only four days/three nights) to introduce new campers to camping skills and group living in the outdoor setting.  Campers have a short rest time after lunch each day.  There is a Tuesday night cookout and a closing campfire for campers and their parents.

Soccer Camp
(Rising Grades 3-7)
July 7 – 12

Fee:  $360

NEW for 2013, is Camp Grier’s Soccer Camp!  For rising grades 3 – 7, this camp is for all abilities, and will be led by current and/or former professional Charlotte Eagle soccer players.  Whether you are just wanting to learn basic soccer skills such as footwork, shooting, dribbling, passing, and teamwork, or if you are looking to sharpen your current abilities, this camp is for you!

Soccer Camp will still include many of the fun traditional camp activities such as the Fire Tower, Rock Slide, swimming, campfire, and Bible Study, but will also have additional time dedicated to the world’s most popular sport – soccer! 


Cherokee Rustic  Camp
(Rising Grade 6*)
June 16 - 21                    July 14 - 19

Fee:  $360

Cherokee Rustic camps are for rising 6th graders with at least one year of camping experience and a sense of adventure.  These are more experienced campers who are housed outside of Main Camp in the Meadow Woods area at Rustic 1 and have more cookouts and a more adventurous overnight camp-out than the Lodge campers.

**Rising 5th grade with more than 2 years camp experience may attend if space available**

_You and Me Camp
Youth and Adults (Rising Grades 1-3)
June 26 - 28

Fee:  Adult: $190, Child: $145

Are you as excited about going to camp as your child? Do you have a child who wants to experience camp, but is not yet ready to spend time away from you? This is the perfect opportunity for you both!  Whether it is mom, dad, grandparent, or guardian, this new and exciting program will allow you and your child to experience camp in a whole new way.  You and Me Camp is for rising 1st - 3rd graders.  This 2 night, 3-day camp will prove to be one of the most meaningful times the two of you will share all year!

Cherokee Lodge Camp
(Rising Grades 3-6)

Fee:  $360

Cherokee Lodge campers stay in main camp lodges, and enjoy a graduated program with activities suitable for first and second year campers.  Additional activities include Fire Tower hikes and an overnight at Fox Den or Rock Slide.

Campers are placed in groups according to age and grade level.  (Rising 3rd graders may attend the three-day Rising Sun or five-day Cherokee Lodge camps.)

Bring My Bike to Camp
(Rising Grades 4-6) 
July 14 - 19

Fee:  $360

Come enjoy camp with your bike! One of our newer camps, this camp is offered for rising 4th - 6th graders. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in the everyday camp fun that you have grown to love, but now instead of walking, you will have the opportunity to ride your bike. There will also be a time to learn about bike safety and repair.  The week culminates with an adventurous trip from the top of Point Lookout down tot he Old Fort Picnic Grounds.  Sign up early as this camp fills quickly!

**Campers must supply their own bike and helmet.**

Music, Art and Drama Camp (MAD Camp)

MAD Camp
(Rising Grades 3-9)
July 28 - August 2

Fee:  $385

Come enjoy music, art, and drama as never before! This is the 7th summer that Camp Grier is offering MAD Camp.  This camp is for campers who enjoy the arts.  We invite campers who have never been to Camp Grier before, as well as those campers who love Camp Grier, but want to experience something new.  No camping experience is required.  Campers will have the opportunity to help design a set and learn a production full of skits and music.  The week will conclude with a final production for your family and friends.  Be sure to sign up early as this camp is likely to fill up quickly!

Campers will stay in the Main Camp cabins with summer staff counselors who have a passion for theater and the arts.  Groups will be divided by age - one group for rising grades 3-6 and another group for rising grades 7-9.  Volunteers with theater backgrounds will lead the days' activities.

Mid-High Camps

Pioneer Adventure Camp
(Rising Grades 8-9) 
July 7 - 12 (PA3)

Fee $360

The Pioneer Adventure camps are for rising 8th and 9th graders.  Lodged in rustic cabins at the Wildness site away from Main Camp, Pioneer Adventure campers participate in more small-group activity and experience time together at Wildness.  

There is no electricity at this site and it is located approximately one mile from Main Camp.  Campers are expected to hike to and from their campsite each day for activities in Main Camp.  These campers enjoy many of the same activities as other Rustic campers and take showers each day while in the Main Camp.

Pioneer Rustic Camp
(Rising Grades 7-9)

Fee:  $360

Pioneer Rustic campers are lodged in rustic A-frame long houses in the Rustic Area.  These campers cook out frequently and backpack to their overnight campsites in Pisgah National Forest.  Their activities include more small group discussion and greater involvement in decision-making.  Pioneer Rustic campers also enjoy swimming, boating, Bible study, crafts, camp-wide vespers service, the Rustic dance, the rock slide, and tubing on the Catawba River.

Pioneer Adventure 2-Week Camp
(Rising Grades 8-9)
July 21 - August 2 (PA2WK)

Fee $720

Pioneer Adventure campers may choose the two-week program.  Activities include regular camp programs and adventures off camp property.  Our most experienced staff members as well as adult volunteers will lead this group.  Activities for this camp include tubing at Deep Creek, overnights at Star Gap, hiking a portion of the Appalachian Trail, and rafting the Nantahala River.  

The first week at camp will be spent participating in regular camp activities.  There will be two opportunities for campers to do laundry at the Old Fort Laundry Mat.  Campers should bring quarters and travel-size laundry detergent. 

The weekend will be spent in Cullowhee, NC at Cullowhee Presbyterian Church.  On Saturday, campers will go tubing at Deep Creek, and the group will spend Sunday through Tuesday morning on the trail, and Tuesday rafting the Nantahala River.  The remainder of camp will be spent back at Camp Grier resting and reflecting with a trip off-site to visit Mt. Mitchell.

High School Camps

Senior High Wildness Camp
(Grades 9-12)
July 28 - August 2 (SH6)

Fee:  $360

This one-week camp for rising 9th - 12th graders lodges campers at the Wildness site with no electricity.  The site is located approximately one mile from Main Camp.  Experienced counselors will lead the group in regular camp programs as well as activities off camp property.  Campers are expected to hike to and from their campsite each day for activities in Main Camp, and will enjoy hiking, overnights, cook-outs, tubing, swimming, boating, crafts, and Bible Study.  Campers will have the opportunity to shower each day when in the Main Camp area

Counselor-In-Training Camp

(Rising Grades 11-12)
July 14 - July 26

Fee:  $575

This is a two-week program designed for campers who are interested in becoming Camp Grier counselors.  Campers must have completed 10th grade.  Emphasis is placed on giving practical experience and insight into the philosophy of church camping and in developing a variety of leadership skills.

Senior High 2-Week Camp
(Rising Grades 10-12) 
June 16 - June 28 (SH2WK)

Fee:  $720
